MODES and WORKSPACES

Versions 12 and X3 has the ability for customised workspace modes, choose your own personal settings or Full Edit, providing you have all tools available to you for this tutorial.

Version 11 has five modes.  You will see them listed in the My Workshop Menu.  For the purpose of this tutorial, ensure you are working in "Advanced Mode" in order for all tools to be available to you.

Version 10 has two work modes, Basic and Standard. Basic Mode features a simplified workspace with larger buttons and the most common functions, whereas, the Standard Mode displays all of the functions.  We will be using the Standard Mode in this tutorial. If you see Standard Mode faded out as shown, then this is the mode you are using.  If you change from standard to basic you will lose any presets you may have saved.

Remember to save often

Open a blank, white canvas size 400 x 400.

A background is optional, you can of course just have a plain white or coloured background.

To make a background on the canvas. Using the colour picker choose colours from the photograph and select the paintbrush - default settings paint diagonal, scattered lines on the canvas.

Select the Paint-drop water brush size 30, transparency 30 soft edge 50 and sweep lightly diagonally back and forth.

Next choose the Retouch Bristle Smear   settings:  50, level 100 and move brush back and forth diagonally.

Alternatively you can choose a textured background if you wish

Select Clone brush - charcoal soft texture merge

You can of course choose any clone brush you desire, however the charcoal soft texture merge gives a soft pastel effect

size 30   Transparency 0

You can play around with settings to obtain a desired result

Holding down the SHIFT KEY and tapping the clone brush in centre of your canvas where you will begin painting.  Still holding the shift key, tap the centre area of the flower, move the clone brush back to your canvas - but BEFORE touching canvas, let go of the shift key.

In small, soft strokes, follow contour of flowers and be careful not to release brush until all the flower is painted/cloned.

You can vary your stroke and weight to obtain a soft, result.

When your flower is cloned, release the brush, and click out of mode.  Now you have an object flower to add to your easy palette for future use.

If for some reason you went over the edges, this can be erased using the object eraser tool.

Your object can be duplicated and used for many different projects..

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  Remember, this is about fun and learning PI tools.
