Title:   Installing Third Party Plugins/Filters

Author: Maureen Eves-Lavis

Level:   Beginner

Tools:   None

Materials:    Downloaded Plugins/Filters

Additional Files: These can be downloaded from PIRC PhotoImpact Resource Centre   msvcrt10.dll.zip -  plugin.dll

Before installing plugins/filters you will need the following file for your plugins/filters to work.  Download the msvcrt10.dll.zip, unzip/extract and insert the file into your windows system folder                C:\Windows\System as show in the image below.

If you experience problems getting your plugins/filters to work, you may need the plugin.dll.

If you have Adobe products on your computer such as PhotoShop, PhotoDeluxe, Premiere, After Effects, look in the appropriate program's folder and copy the plugin.dll into (or download the file from the above link)

If you have PIX3 you will insert this file into  C :\Program Files\Corel\PhotoImpactX3.  If you have previous versions of PhotoImpact the folder will be  C :\Program Files\UleadSystems\PhotoImpact (10, 11 or 12) .. whatever version number you may have. Paste in the plugin.dll as shown below.

I have PIX3 and have not installed the plugin.dll and all my filters work perfectly, however, I do have the msvcrt10.dll in my Windows/System folder as shown above.  Try the plugins/filters without plugin.dll file first, and if all works well, don't install the plugin.dll

Once the two files are installed you will need to create a folder on your hard drive and name it 'Plugins'

If you have a separate hard drive, it is recommended that you store your plugins/filters in this.  If you ever need to reinstall PhotoImpact you will not lose your plugins/filters folder.

I created a folder and named it PHOTOIMPACT-FILES on a separate hard drive.  I then made a sub-folder named Plugins.  However, this can also be done on your C:/ drive if you only have one hard drive.  It would probably be best to make the file in My Documents/PhotoImpact-Files/Plugins.

Each subsequent plugin is downloaded and installed into its own folder bearing the plugins name, as seen in the image below.

Open PhotoImpact,  File,  Preferences, General,  Plugins -  in the right side under 'Define additional folders for plugins' locate your plugin folder by depressing the button and browse.

(Mine is located on D :/PHOTOIMPACT-FILES/Plugins)

There are two ways that plugins/filters can be installed and utilised in PhotoImpact.  Some may only want to have one particular plugin whilst others may want their whole collection visible.  Bear in mind, if you do have a lot there's a possibility that this could affect PhotoImpact, especially if you have an older machine or low RAM, so you may want to only show a few plugins as required.

If you only wish to show one plugin, click the browse button as shown in the above image, locate where your Plugin Folder is, then the subsequent SubFolder of the name of the plugin you wish to use.  This will then show in the list. As you see below, all I have showing is Flaming Pear, no other plugins show.

Now that everything is installed, reboot PhotoImpact.  Open an image, click on Effect and your installed plugins/filters will show.  You are now ready to use your Third Party Plugins.
